Every retail store, office and data centre - facilities in 43 countries across the globe. Apple is now completely powered by renewable energy - and 23 of its manufacturing suppliers have committed to do the same.
"We're committed to leaving the world better than we found it. After years of hard work we're proud to have reached this significant milestone," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO.
"We’re going to keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible with the materials in our products, the way we recycle them, our facilities and our work with suppliers to establish new creative and forward-looking sources of renewable energy because we know the future depends on it."
Apple is building solar arrays and wind farms, biogas fuel cells, micro-hydro generation systems and energy storage technologies - 25 of these projects are currently operating, and 15 more are under construction.
"Once built," Apple says, "over 1.4 gigawatts of clean renewable energy generation will be spread across 11 countries."
The projects include Apple Park - the comnpany's headquarters in Cupertino, which is powered by 100 per cent renewable energy from multiple sources - including a 17-megawatt onsite rooftop solar installation and four megawatts of biogas fuel cells. It is all controlled by a microgrid with battery storage, and gives clean energy back to the public grid during periods of low occupancy.
There's also wind and solar projects in China, a wind farm in Orgean, large scale solar projects in Reno and rooftop solar systems in Japan and Singapore.
